On April 13, 2017 Skyline College Disability Resource Center Alternate Media Specialist Karmann Robbins spoke at the Western Social Science Association 59th Annual Conference held at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco. Her presentation focused on “Having a Disability in the Art World of Technology”. Using her Skyline College experience and work as a guide, Karmann provided concrete examples for how students with disabilities can navigate technology.
Further, Karmann spoke about how her Skyline College experiences prepared her for her current roles and responsibilities as an art student at San Jose State University. She drove home the point that these experiences combined led to her wanting to focus her career on creating pathways for students with disabilities to excel in tech. During the three-day conference, Karmann participated in a roundtable discussion on “Accessibility Allies on College Campuses: Supporting Students with Disabilities and Learning”. Overall, both presentations went well and it was a great learning and networking experience.
