Skyline College’s Beta Theta Omicron chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society has again proven its dedication to academic excellence and leadership at the recent PTK Catalyst International Conference in Orlando, Florida. The chapter received multiple prestigious awards, including the Distinguished College Project Award, the Distinguished Chapter Award for 2024, and the Distinguished Officer Team Award. PTK member Thant Zayar Htut received the Distinguished Chapter Member award for supporting the officer team and chapter activities during 2024. And co-advisor Thanh Nguyen received the Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Paragon Award for new advisors, celebrating and recognizing her dedication to PTK over the years, first as a member, chapter officer, regional officer, and now an advisor for the BOO chapter.

All these accolades recognize the chapter’s exceptional efforts in developing impactful projects and the outstanding leadership demonstrated by its officer team. The chapter’s creativity, collaboration, and commitment to creating positive change were celebrated internationally.

Skyline College student and Beta Theta Omicron member Codie Lai attended the conference for the first time and ran for the position of International Vice President of Division IV. Although he was not able to carry the title and position home, the journey provided invaluable personal and professional growth for him. Codie’s dedication and campaign performance, which included delivering a research speech and being interviewed by Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, the President of PTK, in front of the congregation, was acknowledged by the Nevada/California regional coordinator team and alumni association. And Codie accepted the offer to become a regional officer for the 2024/25 term. Congratulations, Codie Lai!

Besides being celebrated, the chapter also took advantage of growing professionally and delivered an educational workshop, which over 50 conference attendees attended. The officer team shared their work on chapter engagement across multiple social media platforms and how to build successful and engaging posts that showcase student success and break accessibility barriers for school resources.

The convention also gave the team a great opportunity to network with PTK members across the US, and they enjoyed celebrating the success of the Cañada College chapter, Beta Zeta Nu, at the conference.

The chapter thanks the many supporters on the Skyline College campus who make their success possible by extending due dates, excusing absences, and supporting and encouraging comments to support raising funds for the chapter travel. Please, know that the BOO chapter appreciates every one of you. The chapter’s success is your success!
