This spring, Psychology Professor Jennifer Merrill was recognized for her outstanding contributions to and support of the Beta Theta Omicron Chapter of Skyline College.

The annual award is given to one outstanding faculty member within the Nevada/California region. The award will be presented at the Spring Regional Leadership Conference in Ontario, CA, on March 23, 2024.

In their nomination, the Beta Theta Omicron officers wrote:

“In the last two years, Prof. Merrill has contributed significantly to the chapter’s Honors in Action research projects, allowed the officers to promote the chapter in her classes, delivered a keynote speech at the fall 2023 regional leadership conference, and provided unmatched encouragement as the chapter has grown. Prof. Merrill’s research expertise was invaluable as our chapter completed two large Honors in Action projects over the last two years. She collaborated with chapter officers to develop survey questions and provided valuable feedback on the chapter’s work. Since both topics were related to psychology, she encouraged collaboration between the two officer teams (Psi Beta Honor Society and PTK). To ensure the success of the HiA project, she announced events regularly and helped promote the chapter.

Beyond directly supporting our research, Prof. Merrill has empowered the Beta Theta Omicron chapter by consistently highlighting our Phi Theta Kappa work to the larger college community. She allows our chapter officers to announce upcoming events and meetings at the end of her classes. […]

Finally, Prof. Merrill stands out for assisting our chapter members. As she regularly checked in with officers about their accomplishments and work, she could be found celebrating their success and sharing it with the campus community. Her optimism and belief in the student’s potential motivate the chapter officers to continue moving forward.
