San Bruno, CA – The Skyline College women’s wrestling team made history on February 19, 2025, hosting their first-ever home tri-meet at the Skyline College Gym. In front of an energized crowd and with music provided by DJ Keith O, the Trojans delivered an impressive performance, securing victories over Santa Rosa Junior College (24-15) and Fresno City College (29-5).

Adding to the unforgettable atmosphere, Emcee Dave Guingona unexpectedly stepped up to sing the national anthem a cappella, setting the tone for an exciting evening of competition.
The meet opened spectacularly, with Zayna Nasrah (110 lbs.) igniting the Skyline squad with a dominant head-and-arm throw that led to a pin. Alexandra Flood (117 lbs.) battled through a tough six-minute match but rebounded with a strong victory against Fresno. Esmerelda Mendez (131 lbs.) displayed outstanding counter-attacks, finishing her match with a commanding half-Nelson pin.
The upper weights continued Skyline’s dominance, with Jamie Micallef (160 lbs.), Annette Beltran (180 lbs.), and Alia Vunipola (207 lbs.) all securing falls through relentless offense and powerful takedowns.
Head Coach Olga Camacho praised the team’s performance and resilience, stating, “This was a historic night for our program, and I couldn’t be prouder of how our athletes competed. They showed heart, determination, and the ability to adjust and battle through tough moments. This is just the beginning for Skyline Women’s Wrestling.”
Among the honored guests in attendance were Melissa Moreno, SMCCCD Chancellor, and Skyline Interim President Newin Orante, who supported the groundbreaking program.
The Trojans now set their sights on their next home meets, scheduled for March 12 against Lassen College and March 19 against Fresno and Redwood. For more information on Skyline College Women’s Wrestling, visit Skyline College Athletics and follow the team on Instagram at @skylinewomenswrestling.
