Skyline College Women’s Mentoring and Leadership Academy (WMLA) kicked off the semester with their official Meet and Greet on September 13, 2017. The event is held at the beginning of each semester to welcome back former women of the academy as well as welcome new women into the group.

Skyline College’s President, Dr. Regina Stanback Stroud was one of the guest speakers of the evening, and she reminded the ladies of the inner beauty they each possess while she encouraged the women to set a graduation date as a way to fulfill both their personal goal and Skyline College’s promise to “Get in, Get through and Graduate on Time.”

Language Arts Division Dean, Mary Gutiérrez, also shared words of encouragement by strongly expressing how each woman was worth the time, effort, and support provided through the academy.

The attendees also heard presentations about resources available to Skyline College students from Director of Career and Workforce Programs, Andrea Vizenor; Learning Center staff, Chanel Daniels and Christina Trujillo. Upcoming study abroad and global internship opportunities were also presented by Director of Special International Programs, Zaid Ghori and his Program Services Coordinator, Stephanie Wells.

Coordinator and Communication Studies Professor, Danielle Powell, gave an overview and highlights of the program through a moving video that features testimonials of some of the women who participated in WMLA last school year. WMLA will be holding its meetings on Wednesdays 3:15 p.m. until 5:15 p.m. in Building 4, room 274.

The students of WMLA are grateful for the endless support from all administrators, faculty and staff who were present at the event and who shared words of advice, support, and knowledge of the resources on campus. Any female students interested in the group may contact Professor Powell at powelld@smccd.edu for more information.
