The Umoja-ASTEP Learning Community hosted a meet-and-greet for current and potential students on November 28, 2023. With approximately 30 students in attendance, the gathering served as a platform to connect students and offered insights into the learning community’s activities. It also connected students to potential internships, study abroad programs, counseling services, and the Learning Center.

Amidst the informational exchanges, the aroma of pizza filled the air, serving as a delicious backdrop to the conversations. Pizza, a universally loved food, added a casual and enjoyable element to the event, creating an environment conducive to relaxed discussions and networking.

Umoja-ASTEP Faculty Co-Coordinators – Professors Tony Viertel and Kenyatta Weathersby- hope the foundation for future collaborations has been laid and that students know the resources available to ensure a successful academic journey at Skyline College.

Umoja-ASTEP is a learning community and transfer support program that focuses on the African American/Black student community college experience through the nurturing of knowledge, intellect, academic exploration, cultural and spiritual identities, gifts, values, and practices.
