On April 30, 2026, students in the TRIO Program enjoyed an enriching educational field trip to California State University, Monterey Bay, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. This full-day adventure aimed to provide students with valuable opportunities for academic, career, and personal growth while immersing them in college life and hands-on environmental learning.

The day began with students leaving Skyline College for the Monterey Bay Aquarium. There, they explored interactive exhibits, observed marine life, and learned about ocean conservation and environmental science. This engaging experience allowed students to connect classroom lessons to real-world applications while fostering a deeper awareness and appreciation of environmental stewardship and marine ecosystems.

After their time at the aquarium, students traveled to California State University, Monterey Bay, where they focused on exploring higher education and available student success resources. They attended a presentation on Admissions and Campus Life, gaining insights into academic programs, the college application process, housing opportunities, and financial aid options for prospective students.

Students also enjoyed a comprehensive campus tour, providing them with firsthand knowledge of university life, academic facilities, student resources, and campus culture. A special presentation from the TRIO Program Director at CSUMB highlighted the support services available to help students thrive and succeed in college.

This field trip was a significant opportunity for TRIO and Project Change students, many of whom come from low-income backgrounds, to access educational experiences that might otherwise be out of reach due to financial constraints. By visiting a university campus and a nationally recognized aquarium, students were inspired to envision themselves pursuing higher education and careers in fields like science, environmental studies, education, and public service.

The TRIO Program is dedicated to creating equitable access to transformative educational experiences that expand students’ perspectives, build confidence, and inspire future success. Through enriching experiences like this field trip, students are empowered to align their educational aspirations with real-world opportunities and pathways toward higher education and career goals.
