Thanks to the generous funding from the President’s Innovation Fund Grant, the Critical Global Citizenship Education (CGCE) team is hosting the State of Water traveling exhibit in the Skyline College Library.

We marked the exhibit’s arrival with an informal welcome reception on February 2 and 3. During reception hours, students, faculty, classified professionals, and administrators stopped by to engage with the exhibit and one another. Since then, classes across disciplines have continued to visit. We are especially grateful to the faculty who have integrated the exhibit into their coursework and brought students to the Library for deeper engagement.

Integrating the Exhibit into the Curriculum

To support classroom integration, the CGCE Team developed exhibit-related assignments that are available on the CGCE guide page. These resources connect themes of water justice, conservation, and global interdependence to a range of disciplines.

A Student-Created Traveling Exhibit

Complementing the Library installation, Skyline College’s Phi Theta Kappa Beta Theta Omicron chapter created a student-led traveling display featuring global water research and facts. The display will rotate through multiple campus locations throughout the semester, including Building 4 through March 8, Building 8 from March 9–13, and Building 7 (Lower Level) from March 16–20.

Community Events & What’s Ahead

Community Educational Panel

Thursday, 5 March | 12:30–1:30 p.m.

Tom Francis (Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency), Willa Brock (Filoli), and Sara Moncado (Association of Ramaytush Ohlone) will share insights on local and global water stewardship and conservation. The program will open with welcoming remarks from VPI Carol Hernandez.

Community Art & Poetry Workshop

Wednesday, 11 March | 12:30–1:30 p.m.

Poet Aileen Cassinetto will guide participants in creating poetry and collaborative art inspired by water and international water agreements.

Students and community members are also invited to submit original water-inspired poetry or art and to share personal water stories. These contributions will become a collective installation in the Library after the traveling exhibit departs in March.

Recognising a Collective Effort

While CGCE team members Rachel Cunningham, Chelssee De Barre, Aria Frangos, Susanne Schubert, Pia Walawalkar, Rob Williams, and Thanh Nguyen contributed to planning and classroom integration, bringing this exhibit to campus required significant coordination and thoughtful behind-the-scenes work. From vendor coordination and communications to installation and marketing, this initiative reflects the care, coordination, and shared commitment of many across campus.

Library staff Chelssee De Barre, Kristen Jasniewski, Saul Milan, Sherri Wyatt, and Pia Walawalkar worked closely with student assistants Harry Tun, Qian Zhao, Toakase Toke, and Shanie Silver to coordinate logistics, curate materials, and prepare the exhibit for our community.

Facilities staff Alberto Hernandez, Jonathan Fuentes, Juan Rodriguez, Michael Carlisle, and John McCarty led the installation, ensuring the exhibit was safely and beautifully presented.

We are also grateful to Rossmia Coo and the MCPR staff for promotional support and to Mei Lee for photography. Photos from the opening reception and installation are available on Flickr.
