Seventeen members of The Skyline View attended the Associated Collegiate Press National College Media Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Embarcadero in San Francisco, March 5-7, winning multiple awards in the process. The three-day event, which draws two- and four-year schools from all over the country, included workshops, keynote speakers—including San Francisco Chronicle Editor in Chief Emilio Garcia-Ruiz—and contests sponsored by the Journalism Association of Community Colleges. Contest winners were announced on Saturday, March 7, with The Skyline View taking home numerous on-the-spot, mail-in, and best of show awards.

Each Skyline View student attending the conference needed to compete in at least one event, with several students competing (and winning!) for the first time: Multimedia Editor Aileen Bucog tied for second place in copy editing, while taking home another second-place award for video, along with partners Opinions Editor Adam Rodriguez and reporter Andrei Avendano. Graphics Editor Angela Vera Cruz and reporter Nicholas Ramirez placed fourth for that same video contest. News Editor Justin Kapsas placed fourth in news writing in what contest organizers called the biggest field of entrants they’ve had in years. Arts & Entertainment Editor Lena Hofstrom earned fourth place in creative portrait and third place in team feature alongside Features Editor Itzel Quirarte. Editor in Chief Antonio Peeples earned an honorable mention in news judgment/layout, while Opinions Editor Adam Rodriguez placed fourth in news photo.
Additionally, Skyline View staffers earned several mail-in publication awards, including first place in editorial cartoon for former Arts & Entertainment Editor Inika Karulkar (now at UCSD), with fourth place in editorial cartoon going to Community Languages Editor Mia Trejo Vargas. The Skyline View also earned two honorable mentions for editorial writing. Former freelance reporter Katerina Gaines placed fourth in non-profile feature story, while Adam Rodriguez, Antonio Peeples, and Itzel Quirarte all earned third place for video soft news reporting.
And finally, The Skyline View online was awarded second place in ACP’s best of show contest in the two-year college category, with Viewpoint magazine earning fifth place in the two-year college category, and the print version of The Skyline View placing seventh.
