The Skyline View attended the Journalism Association of Community Colleges NorCal Conference at San Francisco State University on Saturday, Oct. 26. Adviser Nancy Kaplan-Biegel and seven Skyline View staff members attended the day-long event, where media professionals and educators gave various workshops. Students were treated to a keynote speech by NBC Bay Area investigative journalist Candice Nguyen, who talked to community college journalists about how accountability and impact can be built into all their stories.

The day-long event ended with an awards ceremony. For entries that were mailed in ahead of the conference, current EIC Sofia Kassebaum earned an honorable mention for opinion writing; former DEI editor, Malia Garcia, won fourth place for profile feature story; former multimedia editor Joshua Stokes placed fourth for photo illustration; and former copy editor, Alise Maripuu, took second place for informational graphic.

For the on-the-spot contests offered at the conference, EIC Sofia Kassebaum won second place in copy editing, and the whole team earned third place in social media.
