Led by club president Jorge Avalo, club members actively engaged with the four foundational pillars of the Psi Beta Honor Society as outlined below:

Leadership We actively engaged in leadership on campus and beyond this year. Examples include members meeting weekly, holding officer elections, and welcoming 15 new members during a formal induction ceremony. Students also attended the Western Psychological Association’s (WPA) Psi Beta/Psi Chi mixer, where they connected with psychology students, faculty, and professionals from across the region.

The Psi Beta/Psychology Club also demonstrated leadership by co-sponsoring Skyline College’s Undergraduate Symposium of Academic Research (uSOAR) and the Psyched for Success career networking event. These events created opportunities for students to build professional connections, explore career pathways, and engage more deeply with the field of psychology.

Scholarship Scholarship and professional development were major highlights this year. Students attended the 2026 annual conference of the Western Psychological Association to learn about current research and emerging topics in psychology. Throughout the year, members also explored and discussed a wide range of psychological topics through presentations, discussions, and shared resources.

Topics included the benefits of board games, cult indoctrination methods, environmental psychology, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, East/West psychology, healthy and unhealthy relationships, psychopathology, trauma-informed care, the psychology of fame, career exploration in psychology, creating LinkedIn pages, and even discussions about the possibility of alien life forms.

Community Service Community service is an important part of the club’s mission. In addition to co-sponsoring the events mentioned above, members participated in the NAMI fundraising walk and distributed food through the Skyline College-affiliated Community Market. These activities allowed students to give back to both the campus and broader community while strengthening connections with others.

Research Research also remained a central focus. Three members participated in uSOAR and presented their posters at the WPA Psi Beta poster session. Members also contributed to the Psi Beta National Research Project by collecting data.

It has been so rewarding to see students grow as leaders, scholars, researchers, and engaged members of the community through their involvement in Psi Beta and the Psychology Club.

A huge thank you to all of you who have supported us over the years. We couldn’t do it without you!
