Since 2013, Psychology 410 (Abnormal Psychology) has partnered with San Mateo County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services in an effort to reduce stigma surrounding mental illness. What originally began as a one-class seminar has evolved into a four-part series.
Part three of the series is the Images of Stigma photo exhibit. In this exhibit students display a photograph of a time they felt stigmatized and include a one paragraph explanation under the photo. This assignment is designed to personalize the concepts of labeling and stigma and assessments indicate that the assignment achieves the intended outcome of increasing understanding of stigma and its consequences.
The Images of Stigma exhibit is on display in the Hosting Gallery of Building 4 and will remain there until Friday, March 18.
