The CSRC Sputum Bowl is a fast‑paced, prestigious national trivia competition hosted by the California Society for Respiratory Care (CSRC) that challenges respiratory therapy students and professionals on a wide range of clinical topics. Since 1978, teams of three to four students have tested their knowledge in areas such as anatomy, mechanical ventilation, pharmacology, and acute care, making the Sputum Bowl a respected tradition in the respiratory therapy community.

In March, Skyline College’s Associate Degree in Respiratory Care team proudly competed in a regional Sputum Bowl against other respiratory care programs in the greater Bay Area region, earning an impressive second‑place finish. The Skyline College teams had started their competition in the spring semester, dedicating significant time to studying and teamwork.

Their hard work paid off as they advanced to the state championships on April 29, 2026, where they competed against seven other teams. Out of 35 respiratory therapy programs statewide, only eight teams moved forward, including Skyline College Respiratory Care.

As Regional Winners, our Skyline’s Respiratory Care students took the stage at the CSRC State Sputum Bowl Championships and delivered an outstanding performance. A big congratulations to our “Finding Pneumo” Team, Mariah, Jessica, Brenda, and Ashley. Their achievement highlights the dedication, knowledge, and excellence of Skyline College’s Respiratory Care program and reflects the strong academic preparation and commitment of both students and faculty.
