On March 6, 2025, the International Student Program and the Transfer Center invited twenty-three students from Skyline College to participate in the iconic UC Berkeley campus tour. Two full-time staff members supervised the tour and designed an experience that would give students a comprehensive understanding of the transfer process and campus life.

The journey was further enriched by the invaluable assistance of three Skyline College alums currently majoring in Biology at UC Berkeley. These alumni, who were once in the same position as the students, actively engaged with the group, guiding them around campus and offering practical advice on transitioning into university life as transfer students. Their involvement was crucial, as they interacted with the students, asking questions to tailor the visit to their academic interests and ensuring the itinerary highlighted buildings relevant to their prospective majors.

The adventure began at the renowned California Memorial Stadium, home of Cal Football. Students were immediately captivated by the landmark’s historical significance and vibrant school spirit and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. From there, the group explored notable sites, including the prestigious Haas School of Business, Bauer Wurster Hall, and Hertz Hall.
One of the tour’s highlights was the Sather Tower, the Campanile, where students learned about the famous 4.0 GPA Ball. With midterms approaching, the students enjoyed touching the ball, hoping to bring themselves some academic luck – a lighthearted moment that added to the day’s fun.
The favorable weather enhanced the experience, making the 2.5-hour walking tour enjoyable and energizing. As they explored picturesque pathways, students explored the striking architecture of the Doe Memorial Library, Cory Hall, and LeConte Hall, culminating their exploration at the Valley Life Sciences Building.
As the tour wrapped up, students gathered at the grassy area near the Berkeley Art Museum Pacific Film Archive, where a delicious treat awaited them – Ike’s sandwiches for lunch! This provided a perfect opportunity for the students to socialize, reflect on the day’s adventure, and explore the surrounding area. Many took the chance to venture out for some boba drinks, adding a sweet note to a fulfilling day.
Overall, the UC Berkeley tour was a resounding success, filled with enriching experiences and insights that will surely aid Skyline College students on their academic journeys. The collaboration between the International Student Program and the Transfer Center showcased the commitment to supporting students in their transitions and aspirations for higher education. As the students returned to Skyline College, they carried memories of a beautiful campus and the inspiration to strive for their academic goals.
