On April 14, 2026, Skyline College welcomed a delegation from Red Rocks Community College (RRCC) in Colorado for a campus visit focused on student engagement strategies and campus life. The visit grew out of a connection made through Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) headquarters late last year, when the two chapters began a conversation about what makes their respective PTK chapters thrive. The Beta Theta Omicron PTK chapter at Skyline took the lead in organizing the visit, bringing together an impressive cross-section of the campus community to share their expertise and welcome their Colorado guests.
The day offered the Red Rocks delegation an authentic look at the programs, people, and partnerships that define student life at Skyline College. The visit began with Outreach Student Ambassadors Chloe and Christian leading an engaging campus tour. Then, the RRCC’s Student Life Coordinators, Summer Eberhardt and Whitney Heaton, spent time attending the Career Fair at Building 12 to experience one of Skyline’s critical events to support students, while the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Armando M. Burciaga, and Associate Dean of Campus Life, Katelyn Martin, met with Dean Will Minnich to discuss the opportunities and challenges in supporting students.
During the lunchtime discussion in the STEM Center, the RRCC team spoke with Dean Jessica Hurless, Psi Beta advisor Jennifer Merrill, and PTK co-advisor Susanne Schubert about leading successful campus events and removing barriers that prevent students from engaging and growing professionally. Next, Student Life and Leadership Manager Dr. Alvin “Goobs” Macaldo-Gubatina; ASSC President William Oo; Active Minds President Knox Lwin; PTK Chapter President Genevieve Caamal; and VP of Services Brianna Khuu offered perspectives on student government and campus engagement. The visit ended with a very informative tour led by SparkPoint Director Chad Thompson and Staff Assistant Tim Luong, who shared resources on the food pantry system and student financial wellness support, rounding out a meaningful and informative day for the RRCC delegation.
The Skyline PTK chapter is grateful to Detail College Recruiter Albin Lee, STEM Project Director Nadia Tariq, SparkPoint Coordinator Julie Hong, International Student Program Manager Clair Yeo-Sugajski, and Personal Counselor Perry Chen, who rounded out the rich roster of supporters. Visits like these reflect the very best of what community college collaboration can look like — and affirm that Skyline has much to be proud of and to share.
