A Busy Season of Growth, Learning, and Leadership

Skyline College’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Beta Theta Omicron, has been hard at work this semester, creating meaningful opportunities for students to grow academically, professionally, and personally. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:

Counselor Joyce Lee and PTK officer Knox Lwin led an inspiring scholarship workshop, guiding students through available scholarship opportunities and sharing valuable strategies for crafting impactful essay responses. Recognizing that strong applications can make all the difference, this workshop equipped students with the necessary tools to compete for funding. In partnership with Christian Sanchez, the Transfer Center Program Services Coordinator, Knox Lwin also hosted a transfer workshop covering essential tips on transfer planning, timelines, and resources to help students successfully transition to four-year institutions.

Officer Brianna Khuu organized a comprehensive healthcare careers workshop, connecting students with volunteer and internship opportunities while highlighting healthcare-specific scholarships. Her work opened doors for students interested in pursuing careers in this vital field.

Over the past weeks, Officer Jennifer Lau worked closely with the STEM Retention Specialist, Portia Luong, in bringing an Imposter Syndrome workshop to the student community. Jennifer Lau presented the first of 2 workshops designed by Portia Luong this past Monday, creating a supportive space where students could address self-doubt and build confidence in their academic abilities. This important initiative reminds our students that they belong and are capable of achieving their goals.

Recognizing the importance of wellness while studying, Officer Zwe Htet Aung hosted a game day event that brought students together to build community and connection through friendly competition and fun. During the stress of midterms, Officer Pakiza Bano partnered with the Art Club to offer de-stress crafts through zine-making during lunchtime in Building 6, giving students a creative outlet to recharge and refocus.

The officer team recently met with President Nate Carter to share updates on chapter activities and gather valuable input for upcoming programming. His continued support energizes our work and reinforces the college’s commitment to PTK’s mission.

Next week, our chapter is thrilled to co-host the annual Nevada/California Regional PTK Fall Leadership Conference in Burlingame! Officers Genevieve Caamal and Brianna Khuu will lead a workshop on effective chapter meetings and member engagement strategies, sharing best practices with PTK chapters across the region. We’re especially proud that two keynote speakers at the conference, Dr. Walawalkar and Christian Sanchez, come from Skyline College, showcasing the exceptional leadership and expertise within our campus community.

The Beta Theta Omicron officer team is immensely thankful for the broad support across the campus!
