Skyline College’s Respiratory Care Program has launched an innovative Respiratory Care Hub, a new, student-centered model that replaces the traditional club structure with a more flexible, inclusive, and professionally focused community platform.

The Respiratory Care Hub serves as the central space for all Respiratory Care students, both Associate (ASRC) and Bachelor’s (BSRC) degree levels, to access program resources, connect with peers and mentors, and stay informed about scholarships, events, and professional opportunities.

Rather than requiring students to attend mandatory meetings or carry out time-consuming administrative processes, the Hub is integrated directly into the students’ learning platform, ensuring easy access to information and opportunities that align with their demanding academic and clinical schedules.

Key Benefits of the Hub Model

  • Centralized access to announcements, scholarships, events, and professional development opportunities
  • Seamless communication between students, faculty, and the program director
  • Mentorship connections between bachelors, and associate second-year and first-year students
  • Flexible participation without added administrative obligations
  • Community and professional growth through mixers, panels, and collaborative activities

The Hub model was developed after a thoughtful review of student feedback and engagement patterns. Many Respiratory Care students balance rigorous academic, clinical, work, and personal commitments, which often make participation in a traditional club setting difficult. The Hub maintains the spirit of a student club, collaboration, connection, and engagement while removing barriers that prevent students from staying involved.

Regular mixers, professional panels, and service activities continue to be organized in partnership with students, ensuring that every Respiratory Care student has opportunities to connect, grow, and lead within the Skyline College community.

“Our goal is to foster belonging and professional identity without adding unnecessary stress or scheduling burdens,” said Anrey Bartoszynski, Director of Respiratory Care. “The Hub allows us to meet students where they are, connecting them with faculty, and with the profession itself.”

The Respiratory Care Hub reflects Skyline College’s commitment to innovation, equity, and student success. By reimagining engagement through accessible, technology-enhanced platforms, the program empowers students to thrive academically and professionally while fostering a supportive, inclusive community that reflects the college’s vision of transforming and empowering a global community of learners.

In the spirit of community and collaboration, the Respiratory Care Hub recently hosted a festive Halloween Bash, bringing together Respiratory Care students for an afternoon of connection, creativity, and fun. The event offered students a chance to relax, celebrate their hard work, and meet peers from the Emergency Medical Technology program, strengthening interdisciplinary bonds and fostering a sense of shared purpose across Allied Health.

Another recent event at Serramonte Mall featured the Respiratory Care Program engaging with the community about careers in respiratory care.
