ROHNERT PARK, CA – Under the direction of Dr. Luis Zuniga, the Skyline College Jazz Ensemble took home first place in the community college division at the 2025 Sonoma State University Redwood Empire Jazz Festival. The prestigious event, held on February 14 at Weill Hall at Sonoma State, brings together top middle school, high school, and junior college jazz bands and combos for a competitive and educational showcase of talent.

In addition to the ensemble’s top recognition, two Skyline College students received individual awards for their outstanding performances. Pianist Jeffrey Gaeto and drummer Brittany Patterson were honored as outstanding soloists, further demonstrating the ensemble’s high level of musicianship.
Audiences will have another opportunity to experience the award-winning ensemble live on March 24 at 5 p.m. during the Empty Bowls event on campus. The performance, taking place at the Fireside Dining Room, will feature an evening of jazz in support of a meaningful cause.
