San Bruno Centenial CelebrationOn Saturday morning, September 27, 2014, the City of San Bruno hosted a Community Day in the Park Centennial Celebration Carnival as part of its one hundredth anniversary year events. Skyline College student Kevin Valera, along with a barbershop quartet made up of Erick Serrano, Edwin Serrano, and David Abella, sang several musical selections as part of the Centennial Celebration Carnival’s opening ceremony.  With accompaniment from US Naval Sea Cadets Band of the West, Kevin sang the National Anthem to open the ceremony.

After a brief history of San Bruno’s first one hundred years by city council members and remarks by city officials, San Bruno police officers introduced Centurion, the newest canine member of that force.  After meeting Centurion, Kevin sang “When You Wish Upon a Star,” and the barbershop quartet energized the crowd with “Coney Island Baby.” The performances continued with several local performing arts groups, including those from local elementary and high schools.

Skyline College President Regina Stanback Stroud was among the dignitaries attending the event.  In addition to representing the College, President Stanback Stroud also represented the San Bruno Rotary Club, which donated the money for the San Bruno Police Department to purchase their new police dog.
