On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Skyline College’s Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development (SPWD) began holding a monthly workshop series titled “No Experience, No Problem!” The workshop series is meant to help students and community members who may not have the most robust resume or “professional” experience. Ron Chand, a Career Coordinator with Career Services, aims to teach attendees how they can “translate” their class experience and lived experiences into capital “P” professional experience.

This hour-long workshop includes lectures and activities led by Chand, who examines typical classwork that a student may do on any given school day and teaches attendees how to reframe this work. For example, Chand spoke about dreaded group work! As many of you, the readers, may have wept and gnashed your teeth when trying to hear your various team members in a professional setting, so too does the student. Chand spoke about how those skills directly translate into a professional setting because collaborating, liaising, and most importantly, patience are desired qualities in any potential employee. Further, Chand explained to the attendees that experience like this is something they have been doing since primary school, when they had to share their crayons with classmates.

The attendees also participated in hands-on experiences where they translated their work into professional experience by filling out their own resume in a group setting using the work they had done in class, while Chand gave advice and looked over their answers.

All in all, attendees walked away having gained some knowledge in how to pivot their class and lived experience into something that can be beneficial to them in the future. Further, they got a taste of the services offered here at Skyline College and were encouraged to enroll if they wanted to gain even more insight and knowledge from the experienced professionals within the halls of our campus.
