San Francisco’s collegiate forensics programs unite each semester to offer a bi-annual intramural tournament that affords CCSF, SFSU, Skyline College, and USF students an opportunity to practice and apply methods and skills studied in courses such as public speaking, oral interpretation of literature, persuasion and debate.
Last fall Skyline College students competed in this bi-annual intramural speech and debate tournament. Two Skyline College students placed in finals; Nerissa Chang received Gold for her informative speech about the impacts of live streaming, and Jonathan Zhang received bronze for his informative speech about heavy metal pollution caused by global industrialization.
COVID-19 has impacted the forensics community in ways we hadn’t previously imagined. We still want to offer something like a competition for students that still want to get some experience. We also want this tournament to be an opportunity for students in Argumentation courses to experience a debate tournament environment.
The Spring Intramural will be taking place on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 1pm-5pm. All students enrolled in a public speaking and/or debate class are welcome to compete. If you are interested in competing, please reach out to Skyline College’s Director of Forensics, Lindsey Ayotte (ayottel@smccd.edu). We encourage any and all interested students to register and participate in our intramural tournament!
