On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Skyline College’s Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development (SPWD) began partnering with the Millbrae Public Library to better serve the San Mateo County community. Both Ron Chand and Walter Manuofetoa from Career Services were in attendance to offer helpful information to community members about Skyline College’s robust career readiness programs, including resume building, interview preparation, internship opportunities, hiring events, workshops, and professional coaching. Community members were so excited about the career services that Chand & Manuofetoa held an impromptu clinic at the table, where community members printed out their resumes and cover letters and brought them over to get them checked out.
They both worked with individuals who were potential and active job seekers, as well as retirees who wanted to keep their skills sharp by looking for opportunities that fit their busy schedules between pinochle and bocce ball. Furthermore, Chand will be working closely with Francisco Ramirez, the Adult and Teen Services Librarian, to offer career readiness workshops at the library. This is due in part to 1) Skyline College’s continued commitment to equity, such as meeting people where they are, and 2) the college’s ongoing efforts to foster community relationships with the public at large.
The attendees walked away with amazing swag and practical next steps in their career journey, while Ron and Walter gained more insight into the needs of the public and how to hone their craft to better reach larger and more diverse demographics, ultimately serving the community at large more effectively.
