Driving Your FutureOn Monday, February 27, 2017, the Skyline College Automotive Department held its first Driving Your Future event geared towards high schools with automotive programs in the San Mateo and San Francisco County.  About 90 students plus their instructors and counselors attended.

Tom Broxholm, the department’s coordinator, kicked off the event by briefly introducing the benefits of enrolling in the program, and the jobs that are available once in the program and upon graduating from the program, and the financial aspects of the industry.  Julia Johnson, faculty and outreach coordinator, gave a general description of all the programs we offer in the department – Generic (full-time day), Asian Import (full-time afternoon), Entry Level Technician (one semester), Internship/Apprentice, Evening and Weekend classes.

Three students from the program – Tarik (5th semester), Estefphany (2nd semester) and Marc (1st semester) each gave a short speech on their feelings on the program and why they decided to enroll into the automotive program.  Afterwards the students were broken into small groups and were given a tour of the department by volunteer students.  The whole event ended with a BBQ lunch served by students and staff.
