The Department of Public Safety at Skyline College strives to ensure the safety of all individuals on campus. Safety and security are a collective responsibility, so the department maintains partnerships with students, staff, and the broader community. The preschool children at the Child Development Lab Center, located in Building 14, have experienced this partnership firsthand. Jim Vangele, the Captain of Public Safety at Skyline, provided incredible support in helping the teachers at the center plan a visit for the children with Public Safety, alongside the San Bruno Police Department. The children and staff absolutely loved the visit!
The teachers at the center continually think of ways to encourage children to practice gratitude. So, they decided to make cookies as a thank-you to the Public Safety officers who visited them, Brandon Becerra and Jeremy Penaflor. They took a walk to building 6, room 106, and brought them the cookies. The officers also had the children in mind after the visit. They had ordered special Public Safety stickers for the children! The children were very excited, some putting their stickers on right away!
The Child Development Lab Center provides high-quality early learning care and education to the children of students, staff, and faculty at Skyline College. These moments of building community and relationships within Skyline College will impact the children in many ways, including creating a sense of belonging, security, and of course, safety! Thank you to our Public Safety team for being a part of that!
