The Puente Learning Community and Transfer Center partnered to visit San Francisco State University (SFSU) on Thursday, February 19, 2026. More than 40 students were welcomed by longtime Puente Mentor and Director of Admissions, Doctora Eurania Lopez, and participated in a student-led guided tour. Dra. Lopez spoke about her educational journey, including the challenges she encountered and the role that student support programs, staff, and faculty played in helping her persist.

The tour concluded with a student panel led by the Coordinator and Peer Mentors from the Educational Opportunity and Pathway Programs (EOPP). Students gathered in the EOPP space to hear Peer Mentors share their experiences transitioning to and attending SFSU. EOPP Coordinator, Rudy Herrera, spoke about the importance of pursuing higher education for Latinx students and other historically marginalized communities. He encouraged students to sigue adelante (keep going) as they pursue their goals and remember what they’re doing it for.

The visit wrapped up at the Cesar Chavez Student Center, where students bonded and enjoyed some burritos, tacos, and the campus favorite carne asada fries.

Despite the rain and wind, students showed up, remained engaged, explored new opportunities, and walked away learning about the various SFSU resources available to support their transfer journey.
