A huge thank you to Skyline College Career Counselor Sal Victoria for his presentation to the Psi Beta/ Psychology Club. He shared a wide range of practical tools and strategies, all designed to help college students explore career pathways and make informed decisions about their futures.

The first technique he highlighted was the value of informational interviews. Speaking directly with professionals allows students to learn about day-to-day job responsibilities, wages, career trajectories, and insider advice, making it an excellent starting point for exploration.
Sal also walked students through resources available on the Skyline College Career Services website. These include Lightcast, which uses the Holland Code framework to match personality types with compatible career fields, Career Dreamer, a resource that helps students explore potential careers by identifying their current skills, interests, and values, and the “What Can I Do With This Major?” website, which explores the diverse options available within the different fields of study.
He emphasized the importance of building a strong LinkedIn presence to not only attract future employers but also to establish a professional online identity. Students learned what types of posts enhance visibility and credibility, and how LinkedIn can be used to research careers, connect with alumni, and follow industry trends.
Through these tools and insights, Sal provided students with a great foundation to explore their career interests and options.
Thank you so much, Sal!
