Psi Beta, a National Honor Society emphasizing Psychology, is proud to host Thriving Thursdays, a series designed to share information on mental health and well-being. This October’s speaker was Skyline College Personal Counselor Liz Llamas, who facilitated a workshop on domestic violence.

Liz is a trained facilitator for One Love, a national non-profit organization to end domestic abuse by empowering people with the tools and resources they need to see the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships. The foundation was established in 2010 to honor Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia student whose ex-boyfriend was murdered.

Liz shared these signs by facilitating a workshop called Escalation. This included watching Escalation, a film about a college-aged couple whose relationship starts exciting and fun but ends in tragedy. The film enables students to understand the more nuanced signs of domestic abuse as well as how important it is for friends to step in if they see these behaviors. After watching the film, Liz led us in a discussion focusing on key scenes that illustrated warning signs and actions that others could have taken when seeing evidence of domestic violence.
