Psi Beta, a National Honor Society emphasizing psychology, proudly hosts Giving Away Psychology (GAP), a speaker series that shares psychology-related information.
We were thrilled to host Psi Beta/ Skyline College alumni Jewel Ocampo and Vladimir Zeltser as this month’s speakers. Both attend UCLA, with Jewel majoring in Cognitive Science and Vlad in Psychology.

They joined us via Zoom to share information and insights gained during their first quarter, including:
- The importance of planning and staying on top of due dates for courses and other things, like enrollment.
- A greatly increased level of independence meant a higher level of personal responsibility in seeking help and services.
- The importance of connecting with Teaching Assistants and forming study groups as it is difficult to meet with professors.
- Finally, like every other GAP speaker we hosted, they emphasized the importance of taking the initiative to explore and take advantage of some of the many opportunities available at a 4-year institution. These include joining clubs, participating in research and fieldwork, networking with professors, and accessing special events, journals, and databases.
We are proud of Jewel and Vlad and appreciate their meeting with us and answering our questions. Their insights, observations, and advice were invaluable.
