Before the Spring Semester began, the Skyline College Promise Scholars Program (PSP) hosted its annual Promise Scholars Spring Institute, where PSP staff and counselors welcomed incoming Promise Scholars to the one-day event. As part of the onboarding process, all new Promise scholars were expected to attend this institute before the start of the Spring Semester, where they reviewed program expectations and resources to help them begin their journey strong. The Promise Scholars Program received about 200 applications and accepted 82 students and counting.

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Students shared that the event was highly informative and especially valued the campus tour, where they learned about resources beyond Promise. The tour helped them better understand building locations, major-specific support spaces, and eased many first-semester worries and anxieties. Students also expressed appreciation for the welcoming atmosphere, clear organization, small group structure, and, of course, our staff and counselors.

Some quotes from students:
“The tours were very helpful because it showed me what buildings help with specific majors or what the school offers. It was also nice getting to know my new counselor.”
“I liked how friendly and informative everyone was!”
“I really enjoyed hearing all the information about the school especially the resources. All my worries I had about starting college seem to have eased because of this program.”
“10/10 tour everybody was very informative and helpful. I always feel a little clueless when I need any sort of help at school but now I actually know where to go to.”
