professor mcclungCongratulations to Kathleen McClung, adjunct professor of English, for receiving a 2014 Pushcart Prize nomination for poetry.  The editors of the Marin Poetry Center Anthology  selected her sonnet, “For the Man at Macy’s Lurking in Swimwear” for the prestigious national award program. In addition to the Pushcart nomination, Prof. McClung won first prize in the 2014 Bay Area Poets Coalition contest for her villanelle, “Gilbert and Ed Washing the Wheelchairs, Telegraph Avenue Coin-Op,” and first prize in the 2014 Illinois State Poetry Society formal poetry category for her sonnet, “The Elder.” Her sestina, “Anticipators,” received an International Publication Prize in the Fall/Winter 2014 issue of Atlanta Review. She was invited to present at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville in October and served on a panel with writers Ed Madden and Don Johnson titled “Alluring Threats of the Everyday: Three Poets.” More information about her poetry is at www.kathleenmcclung.com

Prof. McClung has taught composition, literature, and creative writing classes at Skyline College for nineteen years. For the past five years she has also served as event coordinator for Skyline’s annual spring literary event celebrating women writers, “WOW! Voices Now.” This year’s gathering, scheduled for February 21 in Building 6, is free and open to the public and features novelist Natalie Baszile, author of the award-winning Queen Sugar, and poet Eileen Malone, author of two collections of poetry, Letters with Taloned Claws and I Should Have Given Them Water.
