What if landing a job in biotech wasn’t about having it all figured out, but just about asking the right questions? That was the vibe at the Find Your Future in Biotech event. Instead of sitting through a lecture, students got to move between small group conversations with biotech professionals, each focused on a different theme: Exploration, Experience, and Accessibility in Biotech. The idea was simple: let students ask the real questions they don’t always get answered in class. At the Exploration tables, students heard how professionals got their first STEM jobs and internships—even when they weren’t sure what they wanted to do yet. Experience tables revealed what biotech work actually looks like on a day-to-day basis, from exciting projects to unexpected challenges. And at the Accessibility tables, students learned that biotech isn’t just for biology majors—skills in chemistry, engineering, and computer science are in high demand too. The event was co-hosted by Skyline College Career Services, the Biotech Department, and industry professionals at the PDA West Coast Chapter. The event’s success came from Dr. Nick Kapp and Laura DeKelaita’s focus on student growth and real-world industry insight.

Students walked away with stories they could connect to, advice they could actually use, and maybe even the confidence to picture themselves in the industry. More than anything, the event showed that the future of biotech isn’t just for a select few—it’s wide open for students willing to explore.
