On Tuesday, September 3, 2025, Skyline College’s Strategic Partnerships & Workforce Development (SPWD) began its collaboration with Middle College by having monthly workshops and biweekly office hours for the Juniors and Seniors. The workshop series is designed to help Middle College students who may need additional support in standing out in an increasingly competitive job market, especially for entry-level positions suitable for high schoolers or recent graduates. Every day, you can see job descriptions for entry-level positions asking for years of experience, but Ron Chand, a Career Coordinator with Career Services, aims to give these high school students the tools of the trade.

These hour-long workshops include lectures and activities led by Chand on subjects ranging from utilizing class work as professional skills to include on one’s resume to best practices in interviewing. The workshops, by their very nature, are organized with an engaging lecture at the beginning and activities at the end to allow students to work with these new concepts and ideas on their own terms. Chand was supported by Annalise Harlow, the Career Service’s Aide, and Ana Aragona, the Career Service’s Student Assistant, who answered students’ questions about Skyline’s Career Services and how they can effectively utilize them.

Furthermore, Chand will hold biweekly office hours within Middle College to provide a path of least resistance for students to meet with a Career Coordinator. During office hours, students can chat about job opportunities, how to navigate complicated application processes, or how to write an amazing cover letter.

The goal is to empower these young students with the tools for success and by doing so living up to the Skyline College Vision of student success and equity.
