On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Skyline College’s Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program and the STEM Center hosted Growth Sector for its Internship Tour and Mochi Donuts event. Participants enjoyed mochi donuts from a local shop, provided by Growth Sector, while learning how to prepare for and secure their first STEM internship.

Rebecca Mora Baldwin, Program Coordinator at Growth Sector, shared a range of internship opportunities available to STEM students, including positions with CalTrans, Jacobs, and several California State Universities, as well as the Community College Internship (CCI) program. The CCI program encourages community college students to explore technical careers relevant to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) mission by offering paid 10-week internships at one of 17 DOE laboratories.

Rebecca also introduced upcoming Growth Sector workshops focused on specific internship programs and provided practical tips for building a strong STEM resume. Growth Sector is a San Francisco–based organization that seeks to develop pathways to economic self-sufficiency extending from community college to high-paying careers in STEM.
MESA – Math, Engineering, Science Achievement – is an academic enrichment program that helps educationally underrepresented students excel in math and science and graduate from college with degrees in math-based fields. Founded in 1970, the MESA program serves pre-college, community college, and university students at over 90 sites throughout California. Skyline College’s MESA Program is part of the MESA California Community College Programs (MCCP). To learn more or apply for MESA, please visit skylinecollege.edu/mesa or email skymesa@smccd.edu.
