On Thursday, October 24, 2019, students had the wonderful opportunity to engage in the Meet Your Meta Majors Fair, an event designed to support major, career, and job readiness! Michele Haggar, Program Service Coordinator, the Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Development team, Carla Grandy, Director of Guided Pathways, and 30+ Faculty and Staff from across the college worked collaboratively to put together an exciting and engaging event!
About 200 students who participated in the event had the opportunity to interact with faculty and staff to learn about Meta Majors and how majors fell into the various categories. The Strategic Partnerships and Workforce Development Job Placement Coordinators and the Coop Office was present to support students with questions about resumes, interviews and job searches relating to their field. Job placement coordinators engaged with students fun games, giving students the opportunity to learn about their Meta Major Job Placement Coordinator and the jobs they could connect them with.
Faculty and staff from the following majors were present to support students in their exploration and how it connected to dream jobs: Accounting, Administration of Justice, Allied Health, Art, Biology, Biotechnology, Business, Chemistry, Communication Studies, Computer Science, Cosmetology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, English, Esthetician, Mathematics, Music, Physics, Psychology, Sociology and Surgical Technology.
Students who participated in the survey shared that the event was very well organized and contributed greatly to career planning. Many students took the opportunity to book appointments with Job Placement Coordinators so that they could receive help with applying for jobs within their majors.
Overall, it was a successful and well attended event. Special thanks to all of our faculty and staff who made it out there to support student exploration and success!
