Skyline College welcomed 95 incoming students to campus on Monday, August 10, for Make Moves Monday, a full-day event designed to help students prepare for a successful start to the Fall semester.
Hosted by the Outreach Office, Make Moves Monday provided students with an engaging introduction to campus life and the resources available to support their college journey. Throughout the day, participants explored academic programs and student support services while building connections with fellow students, faculty, staff, and Outreach Ambassadors. Students had the opportunity to meet representatives from departments and student support programs, participate in workshops, and learn about the many services available to help them succeed. The event also encouraged students to familiarize themselves with the campus, ask questions, and gain confidence as they prepare to begin their first semester.
“Starting college can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be,” said Albin Lee, College Recruiter in Skyline College’s Outreach Office. “Make Moves Monday is about creating a welcoming environment where students can build connections, discover resources, and feel excited about becoming part of the Skyline College community.”

For many attendees, the campus tour led by Skyline College Outreach Ambassadors was one of the most valuable parts of the day. The tours gave students an opportunity to explore campus, identify classroom buildings, and become familiar with their surroundings before the start of the semester. “The campus tour helped me navigate through the different buildings that I otherwise would have struggled [with],” shared one student. Another student said the tour helped them “learn where most of my classes are held,” while another appreciated learning “how to read the building numbers.” Several students simply listed the campus tour as the most helpful part of the day. The tours were especially valuable for students who were visiting Skyline College for the first time, helping turn an unfamiliar campus into a place they could begin to feel at home.
The feedback from Make Moves Monday reflects an important part of the transition to college: students need more than a class schedule. They need to know where to find support, how to navigate the institution, and who they can turn to when they have questions. Make Moves Monday reflects Skyline College’s commitment to student success by ensuring incoming students have the knowledge, resources, and relationships needed to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. By introducing students to the people and programs that support their educational goals, the event helps create a smoother transition into college life and encourages students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.
