In July 2023, Skyline College Physics Professor Emilie Hein was invited by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and National Science Foundation (NSF) to travel to Washington, D.C. to participate in the 2023 Levers for Change workshop. The goal of the workshop was to examine current practices in undergraduate STEM education and envision their future developments.

Over 60 faculty, administrators, and education specialists from various STEM disciplines attended the two-day think tank workshop, which included reflective activities and insightful exchanges. Professor Hein was deeply honored to join a select group of faculty in discussing the unique challenges faced by the fields of physics and astronomy. As a community college instructor at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), she was particularly proud to contribute her perspective to these important and engaging conversations. The full report has been completed and was released this summer.
