On Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Associated Students of Skyline College (ASSC) hosted a “Taste & Tour” event to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month. Approximately 100 students were able to eat and learn about the cultural background of foods such as tamales, pupusas, tacos, and agua frescas.

Our community was able to play Loteria – a traditional Mexican board game. We offered winners limited items as a reward for being the first to complete a row on their board. We were able to welcome children from the child development center and had the pleasure of collaborating with the Undocumented Community Center (UCC), which helped decorate glass cases for the tour, as well as Comunidad, which tabled at our event.

The glass cases curated by the UCC were to honor history and celebrate the diverse voices of today. They acknowledged the independence days of Latin American countries that fought for freedom from colonial powers. From this, they reminded our community of the resilience and strength rooted in our shared heritage.

The Glass Case from UCC x ASSC was more than a display; it was a celebration of identity, resilience, and possibility – a reminder that honoring the past and celebrating the present can inspire us all to shape a stronger future together.
