In celebration of International Education Week, the International Student Program (ISP) with the Associated Students of Skyline College’s support (ASSC) hosts the much-anticipated Annual International Food Festival. The event took place on November 20, 2024, in the Fireside Dining Room of Building 6, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM, though the delicious offerings ensured it wrapped up quickly as eager attendees enjoyed food from around the world.

This year’s festival welcomed over 200 participants, including students, faculty, staff, and community members, eager to sample cuisines and learn about cultures from across the globe. The Fireside Dining Room was buzzing with energy as tables displayed traditional foods served by Skyline’s international students and cultural groups.

This year’s festival featured culinary delights from 12 countries, each station showcasing traditional dishes that reflected the rich cultural heritage of its contributors. Mexico, represented by the Puente program, offered a sweet selection of Mexican bread and cookies. Creamy, flaky egg tarts came from China, while France presented vibrant and delicate macarons. Italy delighted attendees with tiramisu, and Belgium’s smooth, decadent chocolate mousse was a crowd-pleaser.

Savory dishes added another layer of diversity to the menu. India’s samosas brought crisp, flavorful bites, while Thailand’s chicken satay offered tender marinated meat skewers. Vietnam’s fresh spring rolls provided a healthy yet popular option, and Burma impressed with its yellow sticky rice. Lumpia from the Philippines was a hit, as was the colorful and flavorful kimbap from South Korea. Rounding out the offerings was Taiwan’s crispy and irresistible popcorn chicken.

The festival was a celebration of culinary diversity and cultural exchange, offering attendees an opportunity to explore flavors from around the world. The success of the event demonstrated the power of food in bringing people together and fostering a sense of community.

Thanks to the collaboration between ISP and ASSC, this year’s event was a resounding success, leaving attendees with full hearts and bellies. The festival not only showcased the unique flavors of the world but also strengthened the bonds within the Skyline College community. Mark your calendars for next year’s festival—another opportunity to celebrate the diversity that makes Skyline College truly unique!
