On Friday, August 30, 2024, the International Student Club (ISC) started off the 2024-2025 academic year with an Ice Cream Mixer as their very first get-together, along with a fun and exciting game of Cultural Trivia! The first ever general meeting was a blast, with an attendance of 25 students from different communities and staff, including the Interim Dean of Global Learning Program & Services, Zaid Ghori.

The event opened with the introduction of the club, which helped the new members become familiar with what the club is all about. The club introduction was followed by the President of ISC, Mabel Lynn, announcing that it was the dean’s birthday and leading the attendees to celebrate it with the “Happy Birthday” song. At the same time, the International Student Program Manager, Clair Yeo-Sugajski, brought out a candlelit cake to surprise him.

After the lively surprise for the Dean, the officers of ISC, Mabel Lynn (President), William Ordoyo (Vice President), Htut Bhone Naung (Secretary/Treasurer), Shwe Thel Nway (Outreach and Engagement Officer), and Toakase Toke (SOCC Liaison), introduced themselves with a summary of their hobbies and likes while displaying each of their artistic introduction slides. The attendees were then served with fresh pizza while they roamed around the room and mingled with each other.

ISC then moved on to the Cultural Trivia game hosted on “Kahoot!” where the members got a chance to show off their knowledge about different cultures across the world. The winners of the close competition were Lasheana Dilian Husni, Lareytha Dilian Husni, and May Han Hnin, who were awarded adorable plushies and stationery. The event was then wrapped up with officers handing out ice creams to the attendees as dessert, which was perfect for a sunny day at Skyline College.

The International Student Club is a part of the International Student Program, which is a branch of the Global Learning Programs and Services Division. ISP will continue to provide services and programs for international students and the entire Skyline College community.
