On May 16, 2007, the Honors Transfer Program of Skyline College held its the first annual Medal Ceremony and Year-End Celebration. This year the Honors Program graduates 29 students who were recognized by receiving their Honors Medallion. Graduates have completed a minimum of 15 units of honors coursework and a minimum of 16 hours of community service with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25. Each student recognized will transfer to a four-year university. The atmosphere was festive and emotional as students and faculty reflected on this graduating cohort. Student Speaker Alec Roa also received the Donna J. Bestock Scholar Award, named by the Honors Club after our retiring Dean. This award was initiated by the Honors Club and given to Alec for being a dedicated ambassador of the program, academic excellence, and overcoming great obstacles. He will transfer to UCLA in the fall as a sociology major. Other highlights included Honors Club member Justin Tom being recognized as the Honors Transfer Program Student of the Year for his outstanding leadership, campus and community contributions, as well as his pursuit of academic excellence and integrity. Congratulations to all of our Honors Transfer Program graduates!
