On Thursday, February 27, students in the Herman@s Connection to College (C2C) program at South San Francisco High School and Peninsula High School met for the first time on a college visit to San Jose State University. Students were greeted at SJSU by the admissions team for a transfer presentation, followed by a comprehensive tour of the 150-acre campus.

Students had the opportunity to test their knowledge from COUN 655.1: College Success Factor and COUN 655.2: Transition to College and reviewed the Golden Four and other CSU transfer requirements. The tour started at the visitor center, a common point for prospective students and visitors. As the group settled into the campus, our fabulous tour guide, a third-year psychology student, welcomed us and provided an overview of the various programs at SJSU. From the visitor center, the group headed towards the Mosaic Multicultural Center and the Latinx Resource Center, where students learned about campus resources and entered a safe space for students on campus.

The tour stopped at the Student Services Center, Dining Commons, Tower Hall – home to the largest lecture hall, the 781-seat Morris Dailey Auditorium, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center, before ending at the first-year housing dorms, the Campus Village. This provided an insightful glimpse into campus life on a busy weekday.

After the tour, students headed to the dining commons to grab lunch before heading to the Student Services building for an afternoon surprise – a friendly, competitive game of bowling in the famous Spartan Bowling Alley. The Herman@s students and coordinators would like to thank Dual Enrollment for making this tour possible!
