Former Men’s Basketball Player Selected to National Team

It was quite the summer for former Trojan Toyoshige Kano. It started with him signing a 4-year contract extension with the Shibuya Sunrockers, one of the most prestigious franchises in Japan. He will be playing in Japan’s top professional league.

Toyo was also selected to represent Japan on its National Team. He competed in his first international competition this summer, the FIBA Asia Cup. Just two years ago, he was playing for the Trojans.

Former Men’s Basketball Player Named Deputy Finance Director for City of Napa

Paul Phangureh, who played for Skyline on Justin Piergrossi’s first two teams (2004-06), has been named Deputy Finance Director for the City of Napa. Paul has been working in the accounting industry since earning his Master’s degree from San Diego State.

Four more Former Men’s Basketball Players Earn their Bachelor’s Degrees

All four members of the 2023 Skyline graduating class who continued on to a four-year university full-time earned their Bachelor’s degrees this spring. DeAndre Minor, Julius Alcantara, Ryan Wilson, and Dominic Wilson all arrived at Skyline during the COVID-19 pandemic. They persevered, achieved success at Skyline, continued their playing careers (three of the four on scholarship), and two years after leaving Skyline, earned their Bachelor’s degrees. One of the other members of that class signed a professional contract immediately after graduating from Skyline. The other became a high school assistant coach, leading his team to its first section title in school history, while continuing his education part-time.
