Before Thanksgiving, the Embracing Cultures, Heritages, & Origins (ECHO) Club hosted a Friendsgiving event in the Intercultural Center. It was held on Tuesday, November 25, during the lunch break. The event ran a little over an hour, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Although it was initially planned to end at 1:00 PM, students from across campus continued to stop by, and staff and faculty stayed to enjoy our food.

This event was hosted by Louis Zin, the club’s Social Media Officer, with support from Zwe Htet Aung (Vice President) and Thu Shun Hay Thi Zin (Outreach and Engagement Officer) in the kitchen. In addition, other club members and friends helped with setting up the event decorations.

The event began with a PowerPoint presentation on the importance of friends gathering together, especially during times like these. Afterward, the group moved on to the two main dishes: Ohn-Noh-Khouk-Swel (Burmese coconut noodle soup), and egg-fried rice. For dessert, there was a cheesecake from Uncle Tetsu and a pumpkin pie brought by the Co-President & Treasurer, Camila Ore.

Overall, the Friendsgiving event was a big success. As the event host intended to create a warm community gathering to celebrate Thanksgiving, it was encouraging to see so many people attend for the food and stay until the end. A total of 22 people signed in, but even more people stayed for warm conversations and quick check-ins with friends.
Lastly, appreciation is extended to all members who helped organize the event and to the faculty who participated. As the semester enters finals week, best wishes to all students for a successful end to the term. With Thanksgiving concluded, the club will continue celebrating the season with its final fall-semester event, Secret Santa!
