The Earth Day Every Day Team was busy during the fall semester and is looking forward to an exciting spring! From collaborations with campus programs to hosting our first Skyline Sustainability Social, EDED has been busy engaging, educating, and helping our campus community become more sustainable.
The team kicked off the Fall 2025 semester by hosting two Flex Day workshops, titled ‘Sustainability Walk & Talk’, to engage our faculty and staff in brainstorming ideas for what a Sustainability Center on campus would look like and how sustainability could be worked into the curriculum in different ways. We were excited to welcome Dr. Carter on one of our walks, who helped us with several pieces of litter in hard-to-reach places.

Our first Skyline Sustainability Social provided another great opportunity for brainstorming and community. We invited campus and community partners to join us for an afternoon of innovation and ideation on ways we can weave sustainability into different facets of our college. Our participants discussed campus, curriculum, and community elements to engage our students in sustainability ideas and practices, and provided current resources and opportunities for our students.

Another great initiative was our Sneaker & Athletic Shoe Donation/Recycling with Sneaker Impact. We provided boxes on campus for collection; these shoes were then sent to Sneaker Impact, a one-stop shop providing collections, recycling, and end-of-life circular innovations globally. This effort aligns with our goals to reduce waste and promote innovation around material reuse. Shoutout to the Kinesiology Division and their athletes for filling up 2 boxes!
We are continuing our shoe donation & recycling through the spring semester: athletic shoes and sneakers are welcome! Gently used shoes will be donated, and well-used shoes will be repaired or recycled. Find our boxes by the ground floor Wall of Fame in Building 3, in the Learning Center in Building 5, and on the first floor by the division office in Building 7.
Connecting with campus, we hosted two coffee pop-ups in the Quad in October and December and will host more in the upcoming semester. Our pop-ups offered free coffee or hot cocoa to anyone with a reusable cup. Follow our student club’s Instagram @skyline.sage to get notified when we will be popping up!
In addition to reducing single-use waste in the moment, these pop-ups spread awareness on the toll that single-use cups, even the recyclable or compostable kind, have on our own health and on the environment. We also highlighted cafes that offer discounts for bringing your own cup and encouraged our community to build habits of avoiding this common single-use item.

Earth Day Every Day also participated in the 10th annual Holiday Bling Gift Fair, hosting a DIY crafting table for students to paint ornaments and jars, and offering free baby jade plants with any purchase. Students enjoyed the combination of fun activity and gift shopping that this experience offered!

Earth Day Every Day Team members Qimmah Tamu and Rachel Cunningham also helped guide the student environmental club SAGE’s tabling at ASSC’s Skylloween, the PTK-led Disaster Preparedness Symposium, Active Minds De-Stress, and SAGE Club meetings through the semester.
