The day before Halloween, cast and crew members of Skyline College’s fall horror musical, Carrie, were joined by faculty from Personal Counseling and Social Science to discuss themes in the upcoming production. The event opened with a duet between student-actors Justin De Guzman (as Tommy Ross) and Mia Alabado (Sue Snell), accompanied by Vocal and Band Director Jude Navari on the piano. The sneak peek was followed by a presentation on paranormal psychology by Professor Shaun Perisho, explaining that “if [supposedly paranormal phenomena] can be measured, it can be studied.”
Personal Counselor Perry Chen moderated a panel discussion featuring Director Nicole Odell; Technical Director Josh Harris; actors Audrey Degon (Carrie White), Faith Laurel (Margaret White), and Justin De Guzman; and Anthropology Professor Lori Slicton. Odell and Harris spoke about the themes inspiring their work on the production, the students shared their experiences inhabiting their characters, and Prof. Slicton shared the anthropological perspective on religion, gender, and blood. The event was closed with a duet between Degon and Laurel, showcasing the intense relationship between the characters Carrie White and her mother.
