On Monday, October 20, cast and crew members of Skyline College’s fall horror-comedy musical, The Toxic Avenger, were joined by faculty and staff from geography, English, and biology to discuss themes in the upcoming production. The event opened with a solo performance of “Thank God She’s Blind” by Marlon Brown as “Toxie,” the mutated, title character.

Geography professor Rachel Cunningham moderated a panel discussion featuring Director Nicole Odell; Technical Director Josh Harris; actors Marlon Brown, Kaylin Alexis, and So-yun Madrigal; English professor Michael Cross; and biology staff member Qimmah Tamu, representing Earth Day Every Day. Odell and Harris spoke about the themes and media that inspired their work on the production; the students shared their experiences making comedy out of difficult topics; and Cross provided a rhetorical and media analysis lens.

To finish the panel, Tamu presented ways for students and staff to get involved in environmental solutions on campus. The event closed with a group performance of “My Big French Boyfriend” by Kaylin Alexis, So-yun Madrigal, and Brianna Kei.

The Toxic Avenger opens on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, for three showings over the weekend: Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday Nov. 16 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15. Visit the fall musical website for tickets and more information.
