On March 21, 2024, the Skyline College Library hosted the Child Development Center preschool class. Librarian Jason De Castro welcomed the children to Storytime at Skyline Library, supporting early childhood literacy and nurturing their love of reading. In collaboration with the center’s faculty, books were selected to support and encourage childhood curiosity and engagement.

The readers from the Center – Iris Flores Iglesias, Diana Barroso, Joshua Marinas, and practicum student Xuan Wang – all read picture books while the children listened and engaged with the stories. The books included Holiday Stew, Hooray for St. Patrick’s Day!, There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Clover!, Pete the Cat, and an old favorite, The Cat in the Hat. Librarian Jason and Library student assistant Harry ended the visit by providing water and lots of stickers for the kids and encouraged them to come back.

The library always enjoys having our littlest friends from the CDC visit to celebrate the joy of reading, which brightens everyone’s day. Kids, students, faculty, staff, and community members are always welcome in the library.

The Skyline College Library supports a wide range of reading levels and interests, featuring a children’s collection of picture books for early readers. Additionally, we offer a selection of books specifically designed for our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students. In addition to academic books, we provide a range of popular books, graphic novels, digital newspapers (such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal), and digital magazines for the entire Skyline College community.

The Skyline College Library is located in Building 5 on the 2nd floor, above the Learning Center. For any Library questions, please email the Interim Director of the Learning Commons, Chelssee De Barra, debarrac@smccd.edu.
