On the weekend of November 15 – 17, 2024, students from the Drama & Music Programs staged a production of Carrie: The Musical, based on Stephen King’s horror classic. A cast and crew of 22 students brought the show to life alongside Social Science & Creative Arts Division faculty and staff: Director Nicole Odell, Music Director Jude Navari, Technical Director Josh Harris, and Program Services Coordinator Andy Murillo.
The show featured spine-chilling technical special effects, lively choreography, and an emotionally raw 1980s pop-rock score, which soared with accomplished student vocals and a professional pit band featuring screaming guitars, funky bass, pounding drums, and eerie synthesizer keyboards. The technical quality of the stagecraft was on display, and the realistic horror of Carrie’s iconic dousing with prop pig’s blood was shown in the Prom climax.
The cast of 19 was led by featured performers Audrey Degon as Carrie and Faith Laurel as Margaret, Carrie’s mother, who literally “killed it” every night.
Skyline College’s musicals are a key Social Science & Creative Arts Division effort. Supported by a President’s Innovation Fund (PIF) grant, the cast, crew, faculty, and staff would like to express gratitude to Acting President Orante and the President’s Council for their continued support of the performing arts at Skyline College.
