The last Psi Beta/Psychology Club meeting was a full house!

Dozens of students and community members gathered to hear Dr. Shaun Perisho, a professor in the Psychology Department, speak about cults, a topic both fascinating and deeply relevant.

Because individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 are the most common targets for cult recruitment, college students benefit from understanding the persuasive techniques these groups use. In his talk, “How Cults Work,” Dr. Perisho explained the techniques cults use to recruit and retain members and shared information from his video, “Cult Control Tactics,” which is part of his super interesting YouTube series, “Just a Cigar.” Be sure to check it out for more thought-provoking content!

We were also thrilled to partner with the Library for this event. Jessica Silver-Sharp brought a selection of cult-related books that students could check out on the spot, a great way to build on the information learned during the presentation.

A huge thank you to both Dr. Perisho and Jessica Silver-Sharp for sharing their time and expertise with us!
