On Monday, October 28, 2024, the Skyline College Dual Enrollment program hosted the SUHSD Biotech Career Day, an exciting event designed to introduce high-achieving Biotech seniors from Carlmont High School to the vast opportunities in the Biotechnology field. The event in the Farallon Room (Building 12) brought together industry experts, educators, and 30 adult partners to provide students with valuable insights and hands-on experiences.
The day began with opening remarks by Darren McKay and a keynote address by BTEC Faculty, Dr. Nick Kapp, who discussed the Biotechnology Pathway Opportunities. Students then participated in mock interviews with adult professionals, gaining essential feedback and advice on their communication skills. Additionally, they engaged in a hands-on micro-pipetting activity with Dr. Kapp and Dr. Folsom, exploring cutting-edge techniques in our Biotechnology Laboratory!
After lunch, students listened to a student panel featuring Skyline College Biotech graduate Arlyne Bautista, who shared her experiences and insights on pursuing a career in the field of biotechnology. By providing students with real-world experiences and connections, the SUHSD Biotech Career Day aimed to inspire and prepare the next generation of scientists, researchers, and innovators in this growing field.
